A New Life

My posting schedule is still a little slow as I'm working hard on the redesign of the blog still, as well as playing The Old Republic most nights. Hopefully the frequency of posts will pick up again soon.

I've been continuing to run dailies with Merec, but I have spent most of the last few days playing my new alt, a Jedi-Knight named Loman-Kai. The class plays very differently to my Smuggler so far, but I'm really enjoying the visceral nature of the melee combat and the freedom of movement afforded by the lack of the cover mechanic.

Good News and Bad

Let's start with the good news. Firm information about game update 1.3 has started to be revealed. It looks like 1.3 will be a feature-based update, and that the following patch 1.4 will be a content-based update.

The two biggest features for 1.3 announced so far are the new group finder function plus the server transfer system (which won't affect me, but will be a boon to those on quieter servers). For more information check out the Bioware video below.

A Brief Moment In Time

Just a quick update as to what I've been up to since it's been nearly a week since my last post. Things have been really hectic, both at work and with the family (two poorly kids mean little sleep and little free time!), but I have had some good gaming sessions to see me through.

The big news on the Star Wars The Old Republic front is that I've now taken part in my first two Operations (raids). The first was Karagga's Palace Hard Mode, which was really a matter of in-at-the-deep-end as I had no real end-game gear yet. My great guild were happy to carry me through, and we only wiped once, which was on Karagga himself. Still after a little perseverance he went down and we were victorious.

Corellian Conflict

Corellia is the setting for the conclusion to The Old Republic's main story before end-game, and I found it's rubble-strewn streets and blasted buildings a suitably apocalyptic place. One of the Galactic Republic core-worlds it has been won by the Empire, not through force of arms but by politics and corrupt councillors, and Coronet City now bears the scars of a war come home.

Whilst a city-based planet like Coruscant and Nar Shadaa I found the whole feel of the city to be completely different. It almost felt like playing a Gears of War game rather than The Old Republic. The ambiance, as with most of the worlds, is fantastic, with enemy ships swooping overhead, fires burning in the ruined skyscrapers and the constant sound of barrage fire, complete with explosions above.

"Impossible odds, fate of the galaxy, death at every turn..." - Smuggler Chapter 3 Review

Captain Merec and his crew

I always wanted to be part of a prophecy.

I finally reached the end of Chapter 3 of the smuggler's story, and hence the end of Merec's personal story in The Old Republic, and it was a blast from start to finish. I enjoyed Chapter 3 much more than Chapter 2. Whilst a little shorter, it really raced towards it's conclusion with momentum.

Updated Gunslinger Rotations

I've finally gotten round to making some major updates to my Gunslinger PvE Rotations page, following the changes in patch 1.2 and reaching level 50 with Merec.

I hope they may be of use to someone! Check them out here.
